Why not [insert armor piece]?
Lantern Helmet
Lantern Helmet is not recommended because while it is a negligible increase in Farming Fortune while using an axe early on, you lose extra chance for rare crops (Cropie, Squash, Fermento, and Helianthus) and Bonus Pest Chance. It is also completely outclassed once you get Fermento Helmet with even just Bustling or Mantid reforge, let alone Mossy.
Rabbit Armor
Rabbit Armor is too expensive for the little benefit it provides during the short time you'd use it before unlocking Melon Armor, and the boots do not have anti-trample.
Farmer Boots
Farmer Boots should only be crafted as a prerequisite to craft Rancher's Boots, but are not recommended to use due to loss of extra rare crop chance and Bonus Pest Chance. Additionally, they also do not have anti-trample.
Rancher's Boots
Rancher's Boots should generally only be used if you're not able to unlock the Sundial yet. Before Helianthus, Rancher's Boots may provide more Farming Fortune than the matching boots for your set, so they may potentially be worth using for contests, but you lose out on extra rare crop chance and Bonus Pest Chance.
Biohazard Armor
This armor set used to be a must have for pest farming, but it has been nerfed and its Bonus Pest Chance has been incorporated into regular farming armor. While it does provide more Bonus Pest Chance than anything below Fermento Armor, it is generally not worth getting anymore unless your intention is solely to rush bestiary or Pest Shards, as regular farming armor sets provide a better balance of stats, having higher Farming Fortune and giving you the chance for rare crops that are essential to upgrading your armor.
