= ''What is Pest farming?'' =
Pest Farming is a unique and different way of maximizing the crop output you have in Hypixel Skyblock. This involves manipulating the environment to favor the spawning of a particular type of pest, then harvesting dropped resources from them efficiently allowing you to make up to 31-36m/h. In this guide, you will get to know the basic concepts of Pest Farming; essential aspects will be explained in detail such as:

* '''Selecting the Right Pest''': Learn which pests offer the most lucrative rewards and how their fleeing patterns differ.
* '''Understanding Pest Spawning Mechanics''': Learn how factors like player proximity, environmental conditions, and nearby structures influence pest spawns.
* '''Mouse Traps''': Learn how to use Mouse Traps to gain passive income and have an advantage over others in farming contests.
* '''Building Efficient Pest Farms''': Explore various farm designs, from simple, low-maintenance setups to complex, high-output systems.
* '''Essential Equipment and Tools''': Learn about gear, enchants, and skills that maximize your efficiency in pest farming.
* '''Pest Farming''': Learn actual Pest Farming tips such as pet swapping and optimizing resource drops.

Through mastery of these principles, you can greatly improve the rate of resource collection, thereby unlocking many different and powerful items and upgrades within Hypixel Skyblock.

= ''Selecting the Right Pest'' =
First off, what is a pest? A pest is a small creature represented by a custom player head that spawns exclusively in the Garden in Hypixel Skyblock (except Rats, though they can’t be vacuumed in the hub). There are in total 11 types of pests, each having its own loot table. The Pests, their drops, and chances are as follows:

|Random Enchanted Crop(100%), One of Each Bait(100%), Squeaky Toy(2.5%), Squeaky Mousemat(0.5%)
|}
The Field Mouse also gives 50% more crop drops than normal. It should be noted that each pest has a 10% chance to drop a random bait (Compost, Honey Jar, Dung, Plant Matter, and Tasty Cheese) which is used to fuel the Sprayonator and [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Mouse_Trap '''Mouse Traps''']. Also if you are lucky you can drop a '''[https://hypixel-skyblock.fandom.com/wiki/Dung_Dye Dung Dye]''' 1/250,000 chance from pests, or 1/50,000 chance from a Field Mouse. When rolling for pest drops, '''[https://wiki.hypixel.net/Farming_Fortune Farming Fortune]''' is included into the general equation rather than magic find. The equation for pest drops are as follows:

<math>Drop Chance = Drop Chance * ( 1 + \left ( \frac{FarmingFortune + CropFortune + BonusFortune}{600} \right )</math>

When calculating pet drops, '''[https://wiki.hypixel.net/Pet_Luck Pet Luck]''' is also added to Farming Fortune and Crop Fortune.

<math>Drop Chance = Drop Chance * ( 1 + \left ( \frac{FarmingFortune + CropFortune + BonusFortune + PetLuck}{600} \right )</math>

Keep in mind that all drops greater than a 5% chance are not affected by farming fortune.

It is recommended to spend your pests at Phillip's shop for 40 pests to get +200 farming fortune for 30 minutes. While pest farming you can make these pests back and even more if you are efficient. The money gained from the extra farming fortune is greater than spending your pests on hedgehogs and Pesterminator 6 books and selling them.

So which pest should you try to farm, it depends. For money, currently and for the foreseeable future, the Bazaar market is leaning towards farming the Beetle Pest for its nether wart and the Pesterminator I books. That said if the price of Pesterminator I ever drops below 210,000 coins on the Bazaar, the Slug pest will be more profitable. For Ironman profiles, you should always farm Slugs for money since they have the best NPC sell price per pest. For crop collection you should always farm the pests with the corresponding drop to the collection or garden milestone you are trying to maximize. In regards to farming exp, Each pest drops a base 1,500 Farming XP, which is then influenced by your '''[https://wiki.hypixel.net/Farming_Wisdom Farming Wisdom]'''.

Pest drops are affected by Farming Fortune, but as shown not all pests are created as equals. Each pest has its own drops to a different scaling factor to Farming Fortune as shown below.
[[File:Farming fortune to Pest drops.png|thumb|520x520px]]Crop Scaling (farming fortune/drops)
|10.5
|10.5
|7
|}
Each crop also starts off with a different base drop amount at zero farming fortune.
{| class="wikitable"
|Fly
|Rat
|3
|3
|3
|5
|}
For example, at 1750 farming fortune, a rat would drop 51 enchanted pumpkins while an earthworm would drop 255 enchanted melons.

To calculate your drops the formula is:

<math>Drops = BaseDrops + \left ( \frac{Farming Fortune}{Crop Scaling Number} \right )</math>

= ''Pest Spawn Mechanics'' =
Starting at Garden Level V, a Pest has a 1/500 (0.2%) chance to spawn whenever a player breaks a crop in [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Garden '''The Garden'''.] Although you unlock pests at garden level 5, some pests such as the Beetle pest can only spawn at higher garden levels. This cool down can be reduced to 1/425 during Autumn by the '''[https://wiki.hypixel.net/Atmospheric_Filter Atmospheric Filter]''' (Dropped from the Mite Pest), and can also be halved by the Sprayonator perk. The Pest spawned is not affected by the crop broken, but specific Pests can become more common via the '''[https://wiki.hypixel.net/Sprayonator Sprayonator]''' or playing Pest Vinyls using the InfiniVacuum™ Hooverius. Note that the Pest vinyls don’t increase the chance of spawning pests, only that they increase the chance that the spawned pest is of your desired type.

The default cooldown between Pest spawns is 5 minutes and it can be modified using '''[https://hypixel-skyblock.fandom.com/wiki/Finnegan Finnegan]''' (Pest Eradicator Perk), '''[https://hypixel-skyblock.fandom.com/wiki/Pest_Vest Pest Vest]''', '''Pesthunter Equipment''', and the '''[https://hypixel-skyblock.fandom.com/wiki/Squeaky_Toy Squeaky Reforge]''' on Equipment. Keep in mind that pest cooldowns are additive, not multiplicative.
{| class="wikitable"
|Finnegan
| -20%
|-
|Pest Vest
| -15%
|-
|Pest Hunter Equipment
| -10% each (-40% cumulative)
|-
|Squeaky (up to 4 times)
| -2.5% each (-10% cumulative)
|}
This means that the minimum achievable pest cooldown using 3/4 Pest Hunter Equipment and a Pest Vest, is approximately 1 minute and 15 seconds during Finnegan, and 2 minutes and 15 seconds when Finnegan is not mayor.

Whenever using the sprayonator, you need to select a bait to attract certain pests. Remember to use the correct bait to farm each pest for maximum efficiency
{| class="wikitable"
|Dung
|Honey Jar
|Plant Matter
|Tasty Cheese
|Compost
|-
|Fly, Beetle
|Cricket, Moth
|Slug, Locust
|Rat, Mite
|Mosquito, Earthworm
|}
The only place that Pests may spawn is in the plot the player is farming in, or any directly adjacent plot (except diagonally). By default, only one Pest will spawn at a time, this can be increased with Bonus Pest Chance. Pests can also spawn while the player is outside The Garden, up to one per hour.

In addition to spawning on the plot you are farming at, they will also spawn on the highest point of the farm, this means that if you have a tall and complicated farm, it will be harder to catch them, wasting time

[https://hypixel-skyblock.fandom.com/wiki/Bonus_Pest_Chance ൠ '''Bonus Pest Chance'''] is the key strategy for pest farming, it is what allows you to make more than others who farm. There are many ways to get Bonus Pest Chance and the maximum you can currently obtain is 344.5% Bonus Pest Chance. However you really only need 300, you will want to have at least 300 pest chance so that you spawn 4 pests at a time (1 base spawn + 3 from Bonus Pest Chance). However having more than 4 pests on your garden at once can decrease your farming fortune, so just keep that in mind.
{| class="wikitable"
|Pests in Garden
|Farming Fortune decrease
|-
|0-3
|<nowiki>-0%</nowiki>
|-
|4
|<nowiki>-5%</nowiki>
|-
|5
|<nowiki>-15%</nowiki>
|-
|6
|<nowiki>-30%</nowiki>
|-
|7
|<nowiki>-50%</nowiki>
|-
|8 (maximum)
|<nowiki>-75%</nowiki>
|}
These percentages can be reduced by having more Bonus Pest Chance, but you will want to have your normal farming gear when vacuuming up the pests for the most drops and drop chance, which will be covered in '''Tools and Equipment'''. The Reason for 4 pests is that when calculating your farming fortune on pest drops, it will minus the total amount of pests in your garden, then calculate the pest drops. Thus it is as though you had no reduction to farming fortune at all.

== Mouse Traps ==
Mouse Traps are an important part of pest farming as they are the only way to spawn Field Mice. The Mouse Trap is the second tier of the [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Pest_Trap Pest Trap], and it is recommended to use Mouse Traps because they can store one more pest, and have a 3x chance to spawn a Field Mouse. This is a passive way to spawn pests as the traps fill up even when you are offline. The only downside to using traps is that they consume a bait for every pest caught, this can be expensive for new players, or annoying to get for Ironman players. The up sides to using traps is that you get extra pests and crop drops without putting in any work, you also spawn Field Mice that you can kill to gain drops and bestiary that increases your farming fortune and bonus pest chance(If you are using a brown bandana). The type of pest that spawn in traps are effected by the bait in the trap, and the vinyl you are playing on your vacuum. Using the correct vinyl paired with using specific bait, and planning a head of time can spawn a lot of specific pests that can give you an advantage in [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Jacob%27s_Farming_Contest Jacobs Contests].

= ''Building the Best Pest Farm'' =
[[File:ZachplaysAN's cane farm.png|thumb|397x397px]]
Although pests won’t spawn slower or faster depending on the crop you farm, the crop you farm can be a hindrance to vacuuming, spawning or finding pests. You will want an optimized farm, meaning as close to 20 blocks per second and you will want a one by one infinite farm, so you don’t have to spray multiple plots with the Sprayonator. However, all melon farms require multiple plots and are the current best crop to farm, so that is one exception. Although there are exceptions, the two best crops for pest farming, and are infinite (at Garden lvl 15) are the melon and the wheat farms. This being said, I do not recommend that you use any mega farms, farms such as the Grooveman 7.0 farm, as they are long, tall, and complicated. With the melon and wheat farms, you can place a layer of glass over the top of the farm so that the pests will always spawn on top as shown by this screenshot of [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJPSSQAQ9_iPwpJqnd4WSIw '''ZachplaysAN’s'''] sugarcane farm. These are just examples, but you can add a roof to any farm, just make sure when you build it to leave some space to build the roof because the build height in the garden is very low. Currently the best farm for coins is the melon farm. The reason for this is because farming melons normally makes the most money on average compared to other crops. Pest farming is not any different because you are still farming melons for most of the time. The only down sides to this are that it might be hard to get out of the farm, but you can solve this by using an [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Aspect_Of_The_Void Aspect of the Void], or warping to the infested plot. The second downside to using a melon farm is that you need to spray five plots every 30 minutes instead of one plot. The second option is the wheat farm, this is because you can achieve 20 block per second broken, and it is easily loopable, because of this, you can spawn a few more pests per hour than a melon farm. Over all, if you are going for coins, pest farming on a melon farm is slightly more profitable despite having to spray five plots.

= ''Tools and Equipment'' =
This section will be split into five sections, Armor, Equipment, Pets, Pest tools, and Attribute Shards. Each one of these sections is vital for pest farming with maximum efficiency.

== ''Armor'' ==
To begin, let's talk about armor. You will need two sets of armor to maximize farming potential, Fermento and Biohazard armor. Fermento and Biohazard should be maxed differently which includes the following. (You may chose to add Recombobulators and Overgrown Grass to your Biohazard armor if you have the money and plan on pest farming for a long time.)
(You may chose to add Recombobulators to your equipment if you have the money and plan on pest farming for a long time. If you are equipment swapping, you can get away with a lower level of green thumb level on the pest equipment if you are low on money.)

Now the reason that we are using the Pest Vest aside from the Lotus Cloak, Pesthunter’s Cloak, or Zorro Cape, is that the Pest Vest gives two unique bonuses. It provides +10 Bonus Pest Chance and also reduces the spawn cooldown of pests by 15%, shortening our time between pest spawns as opposed to 10% reduction from the Pesthunter’s Cloak.

== '''''Equipment swapping''''' ==
Another Strategy you can use is to have a full Lotus Equipment Set that you can switch too to get more farming fortune when farming during pest cool down and when vacuuming pests. This strategy is optional and can increase your profit, especially if you are just starting. The only downside is it costs more money to get the set up, and it adds an extra step when swapping your armor and pets. If you want to equipment swap while pest farming, here is what you will need:
== ''Pets'' ==
For Pets you will need the '''[https://wiki.hypixel.net/Mooshroom_Cow_Pet Mooshroom Cow Pet]''' (if you have 1,172 strength or more; otherwise use the [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Elephant_Pet Elephant Pet]; both are for main fortune), '''[https://wiki.hypixel.net/Slug_Pet Slug Pet]''' (for bonus pest chance; although you can also use the [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Mosquito_Pet Mosquito Pet] instead, since it has an additional ability for 50% more effectiveness with vinyls), and '''[https://wiki.hypixel.net/Hedgehog_Pet Hedgehog Pet]''' (pest damage and Farming Fortune on pests).
{| class="wikitable"
|
|}
Now of course you will want to have your pets as close to or at level 100 to have the best efficiency. With that being said you can and should substitute the Mooshroom Cow Pet with the '''[https://wiki.hypixel.net/Elephant_Pet Elephant Pet]''' if you have less than 1,172 strength since the elephant will provide more farming fortune. If you are farming for money however (opposed to a contest) you should always use a Mooshroom Cow (even at 0 strength) as the bonus mushrooms generated by the “Mushroom Eater” perk will add a boost to your income.

== ''Tools'' ==
Regarding tools, we recommend that you use whatever specialized tool that Anita will sell you for each crop (eg. Melon Dicer for Melons). There used to be an exception in the form of the '''[https://hypixel-skyblock.fandom.com/wiki/Daedalus_Axe Daedelus Axe]''' for farming mushrooms. However with the new update, using the Daedalus Axe will '''NOT''' allow you to break blocks.

You will also need a '''Sprayonator''' and the '''Infinivacumm™ Hooverus''' to spray for your pest on your 1x1 farm and the vacuum to play vinyls and suck up pests.

== Accessories ==
[https://wiki.hypixel.net/Pesthunter_Relic Pesthunter Relic] is the only accessory necessary for pest farming; it gives 80 bonus pest chance and is purchasable from Pesthunter Phillip.

= ''Attribute Shards'' =
With the addition of update 0.23 The Foraging Update, Hypixel introduced Attribute Shards revamping the attribute system and providing a way to further improve farming. There are many Shards that Improve farming in general but we will only cover the shards that only affect pests and their drops. for all farming related shards visit the [[Farming Attributes]] Wiki.

'''Pest Shard:''' Also known as the Pest Luck Attribute, this is an uncommon shard that requires 64 shards to max. You obtain these by using a pocket black hole or a lasso on any pests in your garden (also vacuum kills while using salts). Pest Luck shards give a +2% -> +20% chance to obtain Rare loot from Pests. This is a must-have shard, as a +20% buff to rare drops, such as polished pumpkins, tightly tied hay bales, and other RNG drops will significantly increase your hourly rates.

'''Praying Mantis Shard:''' This is the Insect Power Shard and is uncommon requiring 64 shards to max. These are acquired by fusing 5 Pest shards and 5 more Pest shards at the Fusion Machine in Galatea. The effect the Insect Power shard gives is +5% -> +50% more damage to pests. This is one of the less useful shards as currently a fully maxed vacuum and hedgehog pet will instantly suck up pests. This can, however, be useful during the years with Mayor Derpy as all mobs including pests have double health.

'''Termite Shard:''' The Infiltration Shard is an uncommon shard needing 64 shards to max. The Infiltration shard is obtained from fusing 5 Praying Mantis Shards and 5 of any Bug Family Shard in the Fusion Machine on Galatea. This Shard is more useful than the last providing +3 -> +30 Farming Fortune if the Garden plot currently has a pest in it. This fortune also applies to each pest when you use your vacuum to suck them up.

'''Lunar Moth Shard:''' The Lunar Power Shard is an epic shard requiring 32 shards to max. Unlike all the previous shards mentioned, this shard is useful for normal farming as well. Lunar Power shards provide +5 -> +50 Farming Fortune during the night. It is obtained by Fusing 5 ladybug shards with 5 of any Rare or higher Bug family shard. Since you will already have your garden set to night as opposed to day for 3X stats on your biohazard armor, this is a great opportunity for more farming fortune.

== Pest Shard Hunting ==
With the addition of update 0.23, some players have experimented with a altered version of pest farming where you prioritize getting pest shards, witch could potentially make more money that traditional pest farming. The basic idea behind this method is to use a [https://hypixel-skyblock.fandom.com/wiki/Lassos lasso] on pests to obtain their shards, witch could sell for more than the drops themselves. There is also another strategy where you use a specifically upgraded vacuum to get pests down to 10% of their max HP. This allows you to be able to use a [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Medium_Pocket_Black_Hole black hole] to receive both their normal drop, and their shards. For both of these methods you will want to max out hunter fortune shards as well was farming related shards. It is also recommended to use salts in order to gain extra shards from time to time. Most people don't pest shard hunt because both of these methods require more time and effort. However, this is especially true for the second one.

'''Strategy One:''' This strategy is simple, and only takes slightly more time and effort than traditional pest farming. Keep in mind that some pests, specifically faster pests can be extremely annoying to '''lasso'''. This strategy is as simple as it sounds, all you need is a normal pest farming set up, as well as a '''lasso''', preferably the highest tier. You also want a [https://wiki.hypixel.net/David%27s_Cloak David's Cloak] with as high hunter fortune as you can get. When your pests spawn, equip your '''David's Cloak''' and rare or higher [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Frog_Pet Frog Pet], The reason for doing this is to increase the amount a shards you receive from pests. Then, you lasso each of the pests instead of using a vacuum. This is the less common of the two strategies as it is highly Bazaar dependent and makes about the same amount of money as traditional pest farming, or even less.

'''Strategy Two:''' This strategy is the more common and complex of the two, and needs a special set up. In addition to a normal pest farming set up, you will need a '''David's Cloak''', a '''Black Hole''', and a specialized vacuum. This strategy relies on the '''black hole''' feature that allows you to receive both the standard drops and the shards from creatures you kill. However, in order to use the '''black hole''', the creature needs to be at max at 10% of its max health (10% of 600HP = 60HP), to do this we can't use a max vacuum. For this to work you need to make sure you have the Praying mantis shard '''TURNED OFF'''. You should use a '''Infinivacumm™ Hooverus''' with no [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Bookworm%27s_Favorite_Book Bookworm's Favorite Books] and the Beady reforge (for this method you will be using a Hedgehog Pet, instead of a Frog Pet). When you spawn your pests, equip your '''David's Cloak''' and damage the pest once with your vacuum, then use your '''Black Hole''' to suck it up. While the animation is playing, swap to your highest Farming Fortune tool to maximize crop drops. Then repeat with all of the other pests, keep in mind that your Farming Fortune does matter with this strategy. When you are done, you will find that you received both the Pest Shards, and the pest's crop drops. This method might sound perfect, but keep in mind it requires more time, and effort than any other farming strategy; However, it makes a significant amount more than any other method. Some people claim that they make 8-11m more than traditional pest farming, thus making a total of ~40-45m when fully maxed.

= ''Pest Farming'' =
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP6IIFC4QUc Simple Pest farming video demonstration] '''(more efficient video below)'''

The video above was annoying and not loading or being able to be inserted, so you can use this link to see what you are supposed to do. Otherwise here is a summary of what was done in the video:

# Spray your plot with your bait of choice.
# Equip Mooshroom Cow or Elephant pet and start to farm normally
# Once it is getting close to 2 minutes and 15 seconds, switch from your Fermento Armor to your Biohazard Set (and swap to 3/4 pest hunter equipment and pest vest if you are equipment swapping).
# Switch to Mosquito pet, and start farming
# Once the Pests have spawned, type “/setspawn” in the chat (or use a hot key)
# Then switch to Hedgehog pet and Fermento Armor (and swap to lotus equipment if you are equipment swapping)
# After vacuuming the pests, type “/warp garden” (or use a hot key)
# Repeat starting on step “2”
[https://youtu.be/JetujO8DP7s Advanced Pest Farming Video with key binds and equipment swaps]

A useful tip is to use key binds and '''[https://wiki.hypixel.net/Autopet AutoPet Rules]''' to make the process faster and more efficient. Here are the commands you should choose to key bind. Key bind “/setspawn” and “/warp garden” to return to the farm faster. The rules you should have in Auto Pet are as follows:
{| class="wikitable"
|You equip your wardrobe slot [whatever set Fermento is in].
|Summon Hedgehog
|-
|You throw a fishing hook.
|Summon Mooshroom Cow
|-
|You equip your wardrobe slot [whatever set Biohazard is in].
|Summon Mosquito
|}
These pet rules will equip the best pet as you farm, just remember to throw out a fishing rod to swap back to your Mooshroom Cow Pet after you kill all the pests, and you will have the best efficiency when pest farming. It is recommended to add an exception to the fishing rod rule making the pet equip only when on the Garden, this will make it easier if you start fishing on other islands.

'''Hypixel Wiki Article:''' https://wiki.hypixel.net/Pests

Pests are a type of mob that spawn on the garden that reduce a player's farming fortune as they accumulate. Due to the fortune reduction, and the fact that vacuuming pests requires a player to stop farming while doing so, it's widely accepted that the introduction of pests was primarily done to combat cheaters.

A valid secondary motivation may be that Hypixel intends to make farming a more active skill, as the ability for players to farm while actively doing other things has been criticized by both players and Hypixel Admins.

<blockquote>
The most efficient way to play the game shouldn’t include a boring and daunting task.

The best way to level up Farming shouldn't be to farm <insert best crop> from lvl 10 to 60, without any new interesting mechanics in between.
=== Normal Crop Drops Calculation ===
The normal crop drops are calculated with the following formula.

<math>\text{Crops} = \text{Crops In Item} * \left ( 1 + \frac{\text{Universal Fortune} + \text{Crop Fortune}}{100} \right )</math>

If the [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Beady_Eyes Beady Reforge] is used, the formula below is used instead.

<math>\text{Crops} = \text{Crops In Item} * \left ( 4 + \frac{\text{Universal Fortune} + \text{Crop Fortune}}{100} \right )</math>

'''Crops In Item''' - The amount of crop items used to craft the item that's being dropped. For all crops besides wheat, this is <code>160</code> as they drop the enchanted variant of their crop. For wheat, this value is <code>1296</code> because flies drop [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Enchanted_Hay_Bale Enchanted Hay Bales] which don't follow the usual convention of <code>160 items = enchanted item</code>.

=== RNG Drops Calculation ===
This formula applies to all pest drops that have a base chance of less than 5%. Pet Luck as shown below is only included for pet drops.

'''Note:''' Slug pests have an equal chance to drop both types of Enchanted Mushroom Block, so this chance should be rolled twice when calculating drops for slugs.

<math>\text{RNG Drop Chance} = \text{Base Drop Chance} * \left ( 1 + \frac{\text{Universal Fortune} + \text{Crop Fortune} + \text{Pet Luck}}{600} \right )</math>

You can get the expected crops dropped from RNG for an amount of pests killed by plugging the resulting '''RNG Crop Chance''' into the following calculation. This is a perfect average, given enough pests killed the total drops are expected to equal the result of this, but it won't be perfect on smaller sample sizes.

<math>\text{Crops} = \text{Pests Killed} * \text{RNG Drop Chance} * \text{Crops In Item}</math>

'''Crops In Item''' - The amount of crop items used to craft the item that's being dropped. Reference the table above for these numbers.

=== Strategies ===
[[Pests/Strategies]]

== Farming Weight ==
The intention of farming weight is to balance farming weight gain between all crops. Pest drops can't be accounted for at max rates, due to bonus pest chance and a player's current farming fortune both being factors in crop drops.

As a result, the farming weight calculation does its best to subtract crops gained from pests before applying the rest of the calculation. [https://elitebot.dev/info#Pests Read more here].

== Fly Pest Balance Issues ==
The table of crop drops above has one significant discrepancy, fly pests drop significantly more crop items than the rest of the pests.

=== Why does this matter? ===
Pest drops are counted the same as normal farming in the game. This means they get counted in your normal collections, garden crop milestones, and Jacob Contest scores.

Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but fly pests drop '''more wheat than max wheat farming rates''' because of the balance issues.

Some top farmers, especially those who hold wheat leaderboard spots, understandably feel that their grind shouldn't be usurped by a new game mechanic that seems unintentional.

=== Why do fly pests drop so much more? ===
This is currently believed to be an oversight from Hypixel. Compacted wheat items don't work the same as the rest of the crops, and most items in SkyBlock. Look at the following two tables of compacted crops, potato is used as an example that's mostly representative of the rest of the crops.

<div style="column-count:auto; column-width:400px;">
|{{formatnum:144}} Enchanted Hay Bale
|{{formatnum:186624}}
|}
</div>

It's easy to forget that normal hay bales are a crafting step in compacted wheat items, but this difference is significant.

Hypixel has a history of thinking tightly-tied hay bales are equivalent to double compacted other crops as well, the crafting recipe for the [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Euclid%27s_Wheat_Hoe Euclid's Wheat Hoe] called for 256 tightly-tied hay bales for 2 years until the price was reduced to only 64 once the garden released. Based off of the NPC price for wheat today, 256 tightly-tied hay bales would cost '''{{formatnum:286654464}} coins''', with the reduced price of 64 only costing '''{{formatnum:71663616}} coins'''.

=== How could this be solved? ===
This is a matter of personal opinion, but here are some possibilities taken from the [[Elite Farmers]].

==== Solution 1. Balance fly around the other pests ====
This would mean Hypixel '''reduces crop drops from flies'''. Here's an example of what new drop rates could be.
* Instead of flies dropping 1 enchanted hay bale, they can drop 18 hay bales (162 wheat items), bringing it close to the 160 of the rest of the pests.
* Instead of the RNG drop being 1 tightly-tied hay bale, it can be a 1% chance to drop 32 enchanted hay bales, which would result in similar average drops.
'''Arguments For'''
* Normal farming keeps a firm hold on the only way to increase crop collection fast, pest farming wouldn't be a threat to traditional wheat farmer's leaderboard spots.
* Removes wheat's advantage of having maxed out 100 [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Anita#Personal_Bests personal best fortune]. As the rest of the crops only have around 40-60 max fortune.
* Players would no longer have to get lucky with pest RNG to max out personal best fortune.
* The difficulty to obtain Jacob Contest medals for wheat contests would track with a player's fortune, rather than need some RNG from fly pests, especially for new players. This would be the same as the other crops are currently.
'''Arguments Against'''
* Wheat max [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Anita#Personal_Bests personal best fortune] will now be impossible, old scores would have to be reset by Hypixel.
* Pest farming becomes insignificant, as no pests will be especially profitable. This removes a money making method that some people are grinding.

==== Solution 2. Balance other pests around flies ====
This would mean Hypixel significantly '''increases crop drops for all other pests'''. This scenario assumes that crops dropped from pests will still count for collections, Jacob Contests, and crop milestones like they currently do.

'''Arguments For'''
*Pest grinding is now a good money making method overall, way better than farming.
*All crops can likely have their [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Anita#Personal_Bests personal best fortune] maxed out at 100.
'''Arguments Against'''
* Pest grinding would replace normal farming for the best way to gain crop collections.
** Already the case for wheat and fly pests.
** Based on the incredible amount of arguments within farming communities that have happened due to flies being better than wheat farming, this solution would likely make a lot of farmers upset.
* Makes current Jacob Contest personal bests irrelevant, and the [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Anita#Personal_Bests personal best fortune] system would be based entirely on RNG instead of farming.

==== Solution 3. Don't count crops dropped from pests ====
Pest drops are counted for multiple things, stopping their drops from counting for '''at least crop collections''' would likely resolve a lot of problems people currently have with flies. Pest drops counting for Jacob Contests and Crop Milestones are less important, as they don't impact the long-standing system of farming being the best source for crop collection.

'''Arguments For'''
*Crop collection leaderboard positions would no longer be threatened or made irrelevant by pests.
*This solution works no matter what the balance between different pests are.
**Pest drops can be balanced, but the point at which they get balanced to doesn't matter for this solution
*Keeps the dynamic of being able to max out [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Anita#Personal_Bests personal best fortune] for wheat, and other crops depending on if drops are changed.
**Unlike reducing crop drops from flies, this wouldn't require Hypixel to reset personal best scores.
*Gives players who only want to max Crop Milestones for SkyBlock XP an active way to "farm" by grinding pests, reducing their time investment.
*Keeps pests as a solid money making method.
'''Arguments Against'''
* The inconsistency of pest drops not counting for normal collections could confuse players, especially new ones.

==== Solution 4. Reduce fly pest drops, increase the rest ====
This would mean Hypixel '''reduces the amount of wheat dropped from flies, below the rates for normal farming, as well as increases the drops from the rest of the pests to match this new value.'''

'''Arguments For'''
*Pests would be balanced.
*Pests would be a good money making method, but not as much as normal farming.
*Depending on how much flies are reduced, wheat max [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Anita#Personal_Bests personal best fortune] might still be obtainable, but would require significant grind to get the RNG required.
'''Arguments Against'''
* Pest grinding is a much more active activity than normal farming, it should make more money than farming does.
** One solution to this pain point is to give pests more drops, for example they could drop [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Cropie Cropie], [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Squash Squash], and [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Fermento Fermento].
** There are endless other ways for Hypixel to make pests more profitable without increasing crop drops.
* Depending on how much flies are reduced, wheat max [https://wiki.hypixel.net/Anita#Personal_Bests personal best fortune] might be impossible and scores would have to be reset by Hypixel.
